The Aftermath Empty
PostSubject: The Aftermath   The Aftermath EmptyMon Jan 28, 2013 3:48 am

Jacob groaned as he felt his body re-arrange itself again. He remained curled around the base of the wonderful tree, avoiding detection by its powerful branches. His face was pale, and his expression haunted. He closed his eyes were a long moment, relieving the worst of last night. He flexed his arm, watching as old scars whitened and the newly healed scratches pulled a bit at his skin. His body hurt all over. For some reason, last night had been especially rough. Jacob blamed it on the recent change in environment. It was probably the stress from traveling, although he found it rather exciting. Hogwarts was a good place to be, especially if you were a wizard in training with a certain...disability. The sun's rays filtered through the tangled branches as the bright orb began its daily journey.

Jacob knew he had to move soon, before anyone spotted him. Luckily, school hadn't started yet, and he wouldn't be missed in the dormitories. He lifted just his head and twisted his neck to check his surroundings. As expected, there was not a soul in sight. Very, very few people would be roaming the Forbidden Forest this early in the morning. He pressed his finger against a knot in the tree's trunk, and for a moment the branches froze. Jacob quickly scrambled out of reach, making it just in time. Yep, definitely worse this time. I barely got away. He thought to himself. Thank goodness he got here early. He leaned against a large boulder to rest. After a few moments, he stood on shaky legs and took a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. His steps grew stronger with every stride, and the haunted look on his face began to fade.

Desdemona usually was not an early riser, but today was different because it was still early in her new time at Hogwarts. It had been a few years since she had been at the historic school, and she was still excited to be back, especially as a professor. She was glad she had chosen to wear her warmer robes as she wandered about, as it was still quite cold outside. She froze as she spotted movement along the trees, and began to walk at a faster pace when she relised it was a student. "Hey!" She called out to him, her curiosity turning to concern as she saw the state he was in. As she reached him, she put a hand on his shoulder. "What happened to you? Why are you out of bed so early?" She asked him, her grip tight enough on his shoulder that it could prevent him from running away.

Elsei had been up all night looking for a certain Werewolf. She had met him in an odd life saving encounter with a centaur. He obviously took potions but he refused to tell her his name. The lack of information bothered her a bit but she shrugged it off and continued to befriend the furry beast. She needed something to call him so she named him Tom. They spent most full moons together. Usually playing hide and seek or eating food Elsei snuck out of he kitchen. She became a bit agitated as he was nowhere in sight.

Elsei quickly snatched up her things and started to make her way out of he forest when she heard someone speaking. Staying in the shadows she crept closer to get a better look. It appeared there was a teacher and a student. She looked like she was holding his shoulder rather hard and Elsei flinched a bit, rubbing her own shoulder. She decided it was best to stay out of their way so, with a silent huff she transformed into her animagi, a hippogriff. She stepped forwards slowly, hoping they wouldnt find the sight of a hippogriff odd.

A sharp voice cut through the morning air. Jacob froze, dread taking over his body. He slowly turned towards the voice and saw a young woman quickly closing the distance between them. Her fingers pressed into his shoulder and he couldn't help wincing. Of course she grabs my sore shoulder. He thought irritably. He was about to snap back at her when he realized that this lady must be a professor. She looked older than a student in her last year, though not by much. He needed to be careful. A wrong move might mean a deduction of house points, if it was even possible before school officially started. "Well, I wanted to get some fresh air before I got too swamped with schoolwork." He replied lightly, offering a slightly sheepish smile. Under normal circumstances, this more carefree reply would have come first, but after a harrowing night Jacob was in no mood to be light-hearted. A slight movement caught his eyes, and he tilted his head the slightest bit. If it was a beast returning home, he didn't want to alert this professor to it. With his condition, it was near impossible to develop a slight sympathy for the dreaded creatures of night. He didn't have to worry; it was just one of the hippogriffs that dwelled in the Forbidden Forest.

Elsei snorted in relief as she took several more steps out of the forest. The only noticeable flaw in her form was the brown messengers bag that hung around her neck. She grunted as she drew closer to the two, veering to the side a bit as she continued to walk. Praying to merlin the professor wouldn't see through the form. Some professors could distinguish a student from an actual animal while in animagi form, she had learned that he hard way.

Desdemona let the boy go, frowning slightly. "You should go back inside then. Breakfast will be served soon. I don't want to catch you out wandering out again or I might have to deduct House points." She didn't like doing that, but she knew the rules and had to be strong in her role as a professor. She was glad that the boy was okay, though, as he seemed to be pretty beaten up. She heard a noise and turned around in time to see a Hippogriff cautiously approaching them. Desdemona wondered why there was a messenger bag around its neck and then quickly realized it must be a student. "You too; neither of you should be out here so early." She said, looking at the animal and not being able to help admiring how well whoever it was had done on their animal form.

Jacob ducked his head in acknowledgement. "Sorry." He wondered if the woman was teaching any of his classes. He hoped she didn't take this little encounter too seriously. Starting off on the wrong foot with this professor seemed to be a bad idea. She turned and spotted the Hippogriff as well. Now that it was closer, the Hufflepuff boy could see that something was off. He wasn't sure what it was, but apparently the woman knew. She spoke sternly to it, addressing it as a student. Jacob stepped forward to get a better look. The creature seemed familiar, yet he couldn't quite place it... The answer he was looking for was dancing around in his head, and for the life of him he couldn't pin it down. A sudden twinge of pain flashed in his side, and he gritted his teeth. The last thing he needed was for the professor to drag him into the infirmary. He vaguely remembered slicing that part of him on a jagged piece of broken stone. His face whitened as the pain intensified, then faded away.

Desdemona turned her attention back to the boy. "What is your name?" She asked him as she saw him wince in pain. "I think you should visit the Hospital Wing as well." She commented, her eyes looking the boy up and down. God knows how many injuries he had that she couldn't see, adding on to the ones that she could.

Elsei chirped softly and bowed her head as the professor adressed her. Her form quickly changed back to that of a human and she immediatley bowed, tucking several strands of her exremly log blond hair behind her ear. "Sorry professor, wont't happen again." she straightened out and smiled a bit. This was of course a lie. She didnt like spending her time indoors, shed much rather spend it outside, where she felt the most comfortable. On top of that she would keep visiting her wolven friend as often as possible. Elsei straightened out her clothes and shoved her hands in the pockets of her skinnies. She pushed her attention towards the other student, a sort of 'are you alright?' expression flashed onto her face for a moment. She thought about asking but he seemed very secrative about it. Figuring he didn't want anyone knowing the answer to that she kept her mouth shut, rocking back and forh gently.

When the professor asked if he was alright she glanced towards her, bitig her lower lip. He seemed like he had wanted to keep his wounds a secret so she finally spoke up. "I could escort him here if you want professor. I'm the Hufflepuff prefect. I believe he's in Hufflepuff house as well." Elsei raised a brow as she glanced back over at the boy as if asking for permission from him.

Desdemona paused for a second, looking the girl over. She knew that smile - this one was a troublemaker, and though she wasn't doing any harm, Desdemona would definitely be keeping an eye on her. "Perhaps I should go with you two, just to make sure everything is okay?" She suggested, raising her eyebrow, wondering what it was that these two were hiding from her.

Apparently, Jacob hadn't been as silent in bearing his pain as he thought he had been. The professor mentioned the hospital wing, and Jacob cursed inwardly. Luckily, he was given a few moments to think as the Hippogriff transformed into a human. A girl with extremelly long, blond hair stood in front of them. She bowed and apologized as well, although her words seemed about as truthful as Jacob's had been. She flashed him a concered expression, and he shrugged slightly, a weak smile on his face. Then she offered to escort him down, and Jacob's hopes rose a little. Sure, she was prefect, but she didn't seem like the type to stick so stubbornly to the rules. She looked like she knew how to have fun. Jacob flashed her a quick grin, telling her that it was fine by him. "Oh, it's quite alright. I'm sure an accomplished woman like you has much better things to do than escort two Hufflepuffs to the Hospital Wing." He said quickly, his voice full of innocence.

Elsei nodded in agreement and bowed again before speaking. "As a prefect it's my duty to watch over the other students." she straightened out, smiling sweetly. "Promise I'll get him there in one piece." She was actually being quite honest, she had thought about taking him wherever he had wanted and healing him herself. Only after she got the boys permission. She turned on her heel and took a few steps towards the castle, glancing back over her shoulder before going any further. She still had to get an okay from the professor.

Desdemona looked between the two Hufflepuffs. They both seemed coherent at least and like they knew what they were doing and though she felt she should escort them, she dismissed the thought. "Take him to the Hospital Wing and make sure that he is healed well." Desdemona said to the girl before turning back to the boy. "Please, be more careful when you're wandering around the forest. It really isn't allowed to students and I don't know how many grace periods I can give you before you get a detention... and I'm sure you know just how dangerous wandering around there alone is." She frowned slightly as she spoke and her eyes raked over him once more, taking in all of his injuries. He looked pretty bad. She didn't like getting students in trouble because she understood the appeal of breaking the rules, but she knew that the forest wasn't a safe place for anyone to be wandering about alone, let alone a student.

Thank Merlin. Jacob thought as the Professor relented. She still seemed uneasy, warning him away from the forest. "Oh, don't worry, Professor. I've come close to having a first-hand experience., and I definitely don't want to come here alone." He assured, rubbing the back of his head in a rather sheepish manner. Definitely close. Once those beasts see me, they don't wanna touch a werewolf. Don't blame them, either. He added bitterly in his head. He shoved his hands into his pockets and turned to follow the strangely familiar girl. He fell into step beside her and spoke softly, as they were not quite out of earshot yet. "Thanks for getting me out of that fix." He gave her a lopsided grin. "I feel like I've seen you before..."

Desdemona watched the two Hufflepuffs walk away and decided she had enough time to do some exploring herself before school started. She walked into the forest, her wand drawn just in case, and waited until she couldn't see Hogwarts anymore before dropping to all fours and transforming into the big, black wolf that was her Animagus form. She loved being out in nature as an animal; there was something so perfect about uniting with the world around her as one of Mother Nature's creatures. She sniffed around and trotted around, stretching and getting used to her animal form once more. It had been a while since she had allowed herself to run around, and it felt so good to be back that she felt she might lose track of time.
